About Deacons
BIBLICAL BASIS FOR DEACON LEADERSHIP
8 Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. 9 They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. 10 And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. 11 Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things. 12 Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well. 13 For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.
1 Timothy 3: 8-13
DEACONS AND BRANCHES
Over many months in 2025, we worked to restructure the role of deacon. In an effort to better care for the congregation, we created Branches, which represent geographic communities that are part of our church. Deacons at Sycamore Hill Church - Hockessin, serve our church and their Branches by providing shepherding care of prayer, hospitality, and encouragement.
Praying – A first commitment of each deacon is to regularly pray for the members in their Branch.
Seeing – Deacons seek to actively care for and know the members of their Branch
Welcoming – Deacons serve to welcome new visitors to the church who reside within their Branch locale
Encouraging – Deacons consider periodic ways to encourage the fellowship of their Branch members
Employing – Deacons look for ways their Branch might impact the broader community for Christ
